Ouch. Looks nasty. Had the occasional cartilage problem in the past but mostly when I first started cc'ing several years ago.

I have problems with both  :(

The bad back is from when I used to do demolition when I was about 20 by trying to show off and picking big sandstone blocks up while everyone else was picking them up in pairs. I picked up a monster and felt something happen in my back. It did not hurt when I felt it go but I could not work for a week and have problems ever since.

The knees are shafted because I never wore knee pads on different jobs including one job where I was leaning over metal girders for most of the day.

So my stupid fault really!

If I am doing stairs it's a nightmare because if I bend over my back starts killing me so I will kneel down for a bit but they start so I swap to bending over so sometimes I will sit down on the edge of a step.
To top it off my wrist gives me loads of jip if I use the hand tool for much time.
If i'm on a job i just get one of my workers to do the stairs or upholstery now.
I'm just falling to bits really  :-\

I think Gary22 also suffer from knee problems. I think it was him that mentioned it.

When it comes to your back, I think being physically fit does help specially if you do any weight lifting. I do a lot of deadlifts and you really need perfect form when doing this exercise, so I think that translates in to other parts of your everyday life like working. And of course it strengthens your entire core and loads of muscles in your back, thighs, arse etc

Cod liver oil capsules are fantastic for your joints I would recommend them to anyone not just to older people. Prevention is better than cure as they say.

I used to get PP Bursitis a lot when fitting carpets, until I started wearing knee pads in my trousers. They used to call it 'Housemaids Knee', caused by pressure. I don't kneel now if at all possible, because just a momentary kneel has me in pain some hours later, hence the carpet fitting stopped a while ago.
The back, don't mention the back!
