I'm gonna buck the trend.
I don't mind hagglers.
I price high anyway so a couple of quid saved in their eyes is no skin off my nose.
I usually counter with 'I can only do that price for direct debit though, paid double today and taken in advance'
Works about half of the time.

Yep i always put 20% or so on top of the price when i first
meet new customers and had one or two knock a pound off or two
they are happy thinking they have a bargain and the ones that dont question
the price..well its a bonus price for me :)

i always go up ,once the haggling starts .  soon after ,they try to agree on the original price but i wont go down once im already up .  then if they say ok, lets meet halfway i say" im not going to do it  youve confused me , its wrong what uve tried to do , im off now "

You always get hagglers. I never change my price and try to sell the value of the job I do. If that fails I tell them that I can't haggle with the tax man, my landlord etc. If that fails I walk away because if they are going to be that difficult at the start they will always be difficult.

Id do a normal sized house for a fiver or four quid  min and i reckon 18 pound is too much. Just my opinion.

I feel guilty now.  I'll drop my prices.  Four quid a house it is from now on.  I'm sure in these credit crunch times it's the way to go.  I can't believe how stupid I must have been to have charged customers an amount they are generally happy to pay.

In fact, why stop at four quid?  I'll go to three.  That should earn me minimum wage and after all, as mere window cleaners, can we expect more?

lol @ exotic mate  ;D I drove a truck between Germany and Tunisia for about 18 months for a German firm. Exotic isn't what I saw there  ;D The tourist hotels and beaches were clean, but the rest of the country..................

Strange that. I know people who are trying for years to find a house there. Got a couple that've been IOW for over 2 years and say it's great. I was there twice with the army, had a great time in some of the boozers. ;D

Anyway, sorry to hijack the thread chaps. I'll shut up now.  ;)

Shame it's an intriguing topic, probably my own fault but I tend to eye up the job and quote the absolute minimum I could do the job for, it's a natural approach to try and get a job in difficult times, pity the thread has descended into a glut of sacasm ::)roll

Cowes can be a great night out , live music in pubs etc , especially in the summer months.

lots of people like to retire there .
