connecting my pump box / battery to my van
« on: February 12, 2014, 08:19:10 pm »
Want to wire up my pump box battery straight into my van  ie charge it up via the alternator saving charging it at night
roughly how much would this cost and who would carry out the work

a garage maybe !

If your pump box only has a small battery then an alternator charging it would fry it. If it has a normal size battery, then a split charge relay will work and any auto electrician, towbar fitter would be able to do the job.

To keep it portable would mean fitting a connector into the charge line so you could unplug it as you require.

Yes its  a normal size leisure battery so I presume it's possible to wire it

Then it will be ok.

If you get an 'intelligent' type then they are easy to instal yourself especially if you buy the kit.

£15.00 for the parts - £85.00 for fitting.

Its one wire joined to the battery running into the back of the van to the SCR with a fuse. Another going to the battery box from the SCR with a fuse and joining plug. A 3rd wire from the battery though that joining plug to earth and the 4th wire from the SCR to earth.

£85.00 seems rather a lot to cut and fit 4 lengths of wire. At the most that's an hours work, IMHO.

Probably about right then
60 quids  the norm per hour in a garage parts plus vat
puts the price around 100 quid
