Water leak stain on carpet
« on: February 06, 2014, 04:18:50 pm »
Hi all,
I have a water leak stain on a wool carpet tomorrow morning.
I have SPM, Pre Spray gold, and Ultra Pack Renovate, and Powerburst on the van.
What out of those will be the best option?
Thanks

Wool carpets need to be cleaned with wool specific products - there's loads about.

If, and only if, the routine cleaning doesn't remove the stain you may need to try more advanced treatments.

Might need some browning prescription on that one

Ignore the newbie pal, Pre-Spray Gold is bob on for wool if you want to be on the cautious side. The first thing you will need to do is check to see if it's hessian backed and I would not even clean it tomorrow if it is because you could be just wasting your time until you know how to tackle browning and get some browning prescription (search browning stains, their is loads of info on here on how to tackle them). Take an air mover if you have one too, the faster you get it dried out the better. Find out when the leak was, if it was recent make sure the underlay is not still soaking wet before you start.

If its a radiator thats leaked some central heating systems have rust inhibitors in them which may have caused permanent damage.

The thing is you are not cleaning it ( unless as well as the water leak it is dirty) you are dealing with damage caused by the leak, this is not about what detergent is woolsafe it's about removeing or hiding the viable signs of the damage.

Have you seen it? No one can advice you what to do until you tell us what it is you are actually dealing with

What is this crap about only using woolsafe approved products on wool?
spm is fine on wool and the percarbonate will probably reduce any discolouration caused by water mark.
As Mike says it is not a cleaning job, you need to identify what has caused the discolouration- dirt - salts from the water could it be browning from the backing wicked up.
It is a good idea to know what you are up against before you possibly mess make matters worse.

It was a water leak from the airing cupboard. I went there about 10 days ago, and the lady has had the underlay re-newed. The carpet did have a dark stain where the water finished up. She did want to try and keep the carpet as it was quite new.
Nothing that 10 tonnes of Citrus gel wont hide  ;)

As Peter says, SPM should do the job perfectly well.

Thats why I put 10 Tonnes , as a joke... (Its the way I dont tell 'em).
It all came out btw.

I was actually called a genius by a customer earlier in the week after cleaning all the carpets in a Church. They had had massive water stains for years in a hall carpet, and it all came out using Shockwave. I was surprised as to where it went as it disappeared whilst I was pre spraying it!
Ive been called a lot of things in my life but never a genius. It has a good ring about it.  ;)
