Van problem ! clutch problem on a Combo
« on: January 05, 2014, 12:04:32 am »
Combo 1700 Di 2005 reg .............. clutch pedal made a funny noise and stuck in down position ... unable to change gear so had to limp home by turning engine off, putting it in 1st gear and starting engine then drove 3 mles home in 1st gear at 10 mph  ::)roll

I think its either the slave cylinder or a plastic thingy at top of pedal that adjusts cable if its a cable clutch

Pretty certain they're hydraulic pal, first thing check the brake fluid and look for leaks, if ok try to bleed the pedal back up if it will pull back up, if neither the slave or master cylinder and all ok around the pedal area ie nothing bent or broke etc then could be clutch!

I had the same thing on my Dispatch a couple of months ago.
Initially the clutch squealled when the pedal was depressed, then suddenly gave up and the pedal was flat to the floor.
Turned out the clutch bearing was knackered so a new clutch was fitted. Only £320 :'(

I had the same thing happen a couple of years ago on an 05 plate combo. Pretty sure it'll be the same, the clutch pedal arm has probably snapped at the top so just a new pedal assembly, took my guy a couple of hours or so to do, not the easiest job if I remember. Dealers had them in stock so must be a fairly common problem.

Good price, think I paid a bit more when mine went. But be glad it wasn't the clutch, had to do mine a year later and flywheel, nearly bought a tear to my eye. May be worth thinking about changing the van before you get the big bill.
