« on: January 02, 2014, 12:13:09 pm »

I produce water via a small 200 gpd RO unit and 10" DI vessel into 1000 ltr Tank...

my Tap TDS is 190

TDS before DI 48

TDS after DI is 0

just concerned at 48 reading before DI is HIGH

I don't use a booster BTW

48 is really bad,
What make or how old are the membranes, do you change pre filters regular.
Also get a booster pump, makes a big difference.
As an example, i have a boosted 450 gpd ro and my tap tds is over double yours and my tds is 3 or 4 after the ro, so i dont bother using di anymore.

For such a small RO there is little benefit from a pump, sounds like the membranes require replacement from your TDS that size RO should get you 10 TDS

Do you know what your psi is?

How old are the membranes?

Membranes / filters probably going on 20 months now..

PSI - have no idea just hooked up to a tap in my garage

after DI always 0ppm

Just had a bit time off so started looking at kit / set up etc..

the small DI vessel probably gets me approx. 200litres of pure before starting to read 1or 2 ppm

200 litres pure isn't very much.

Go on eBay and spend a tenner on a psi gauge. Your pressure may be very poor,

48 is definitely higher than it should be out of ro. Your tds should be coming out at between 8-15 I would imagine.

Get a 40/40 RO with 20" pre filters and a commercial booster pump .
Cheap and efficient once bought

If you're still on the original membranes/pre-filters after 20 months then there lies your problem.
Pre-filters require changing on a regular basis dependant on how much water you produce.
Otherwise the membranes get damaged by chlorine and blocked from limescale/sediment.

If you are going to change you pre-filters/membranes, it could pay you to upgrade membranes to 150gpd ones and fit a small booster pump. This will increase water production (if needed)..

The pump boosts pressure to 90 psi

I did this with my old 300gpd unit, making it a 450gpd

My tap water is around 320-350 and after RO it's down to 14.

I don't know a lot about ro  filtering but the word is it should bring it down to virtually 0 then the di acts as I final polisher

I've read somewhere it should be 95% ... Then the DI polishes the final 5%

So on my 200 ppm tap water ... After the RO I should be around the 10ppm ...

I may be wrong but clearly my 48 after RO is wrong

Paul with a tds that high you should change your pre-filters every 3 months which will help prolong the lifespan of your membranes .

Which is the most expensive part of an ro . Mike
