I used to use SEN a couple of years ago before the big updates. Nowadays you have to be very careful as you have the capacity to get into trouble quite easily (it's a potent tool). Areeb's a smart guy and I presume there is still some decent training in the members' area.

Depends what you are trying to achieve and how serious you are into it. Ideally you need several different ones as no one tool is be all and end all. Majestic is another one to look at. For most people I would have thought citation tools would be something to have. Get your audience to build your links for you these days.

Jamie , what platform is your website built on.

Wordpress, Joomla etc etc ?

Some SEO tools work better on different platforms.. I've got my site to first page of Goolgle Ranked Number1 for quite a number of my  "keywords"  by studying this stuff..

Let me know what you know what you can  about your site and I'll see if I can advise.

SEO tools will also tell you how fruitless it is these days to register on a carpet cleaning forum and leave a couple of spammy links.  ;D

Following on from above.... I received this email today via a site I am involved with but do not own (I get copied in on the emails received).

Hi XXXXXXXXX.Co.Uk Team,

I thought you might like to know some of the reasons why you are not getting enough organic & social media traffic on your website.

I would like to update you that your website is still not ranked on the top pages of Google SERPs for your popular keywords (Products). Your loss is your competitor’s gain i.e. the traffic which could have generated quality sales for you goes to your competitors as they rank well in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) organically.

Reasons:

1.    HTML and other on-page errors are present on your website.
2.    Low number of internal and external quality links present on your website.
3.    Duplicate or low quality contents present in your website without any regular update.
4.    Need to update fresh contents on your website and blogs as per the latest Google guideline.
5.    Broken Links and Poison words might be present in your website.
6.    Social media profile needs to be updated regularly.

Long gone are the days when Google used to give priority to websites of keyword based domains or websites with huge number of links. Now Google counts each and every detail to verify if your website is relevant to the keywords you are promoting for. A single un-wanted link or a duplicate content can lead your website to be penalized by Google.

We are a leading website promotion company providing online promotion, SMO, Reputation Management, Content (both web and promotional content) fixing services to clients. We have a team of 240+ SEO professional working 24*7.  Our team of dedicated Google Analytic and Adwords certified professionals excel in promoting and increasing the visibility of a website in various search engines (including the latest Google Panda and Penguin updates), which will directly help in increasing traffics for your website.

Unlike other SEO companies we do not believe in talking rather we believe in delivering what we promise to our clients. We provide guaranteed services or money back-guarantee to all our clients who consider working with us.

If you are getting rigid by paying a huge amount in PPC then Organic listing by using white hat technique will be definitely a right choice for you. As the rate of conversion is more in organic listing as compared to PPC, eventually it will be an absolute gain for you.

This email just tells you the fraction of things we do, our optimization process involves many other technical factors which can be sent to you on your request. If you would like to know more about our services then please write us back else you can give us a call us in our number below.

P.S: - This is our marketing strategy that we use the Gmail account. Once you reply us back, the next communication I will do is from my corporate email ID.

Let me know your thoughts and looking forward to work together.

Best Regards,

Note:
1: This is a onetime email and you may ask us to “REMOVE”.
2:  If you are interested I will send more details on our “corporate identity”, “company profile”, “why you should choose us?”, “Price list”, “money back” etc. in my next mail.

That's fair enough but the site in question ranks between 1 -5 on the first page for about 40-50 keyphrases and was unaffected by Panda or Penguin. You would think they would have the courtesy to check before sending such a silly email. Not the best first impression.

There command of the English language towards the end
of the e mail would put me off them straight away.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

come on garry, its a numbers game, there not after your custom. why spend 5 to 10 minutes checking out 1 site when they can just send out 1000's of emails to catch a few jobs from naive business owners in a matter of seconds.

Guilty as charged.

It just annoys me that these parasites go after the small businessman who is a soft target.

I'm on some email list somewhere and they sent this tip to me last week, as we are talking about seo i though i would cut and paste in on to here.......

...........................................................................

the best Google trick of all is to not try to trick Google

think of Google like the Borg from Star Trek...

Their algorithm's and legions of computers are just pain old smarter than people now

So anyone who tells you they can trick Google is just guessing anyways..

Maybe their tricks will work for a while but eventually Google catches up with them... they always do...

I am pretty lucky to run a lot of different sites. It lets me see what Google likes and does not like.

Here are 2 things I am sure will help you out..

Every site I have that gets over 50,000 visitors per month has these 2 things

Every site I have that gets just a trickle of traffic does not have them

Ready?

here they are.....

1. Bounce rate - You just got to get your site's bounce rate under 60% any higher and Google just will stop sending you a lot of traffic

2. Average Time on site - You got be over 2 minutes. The longer the better. My best sites are in the 3-5 minute range and Google sends them LOADS of traffic.

Always remember Google is in the *business* of giving the best results to their searchers. The 2 things I just told tell them they are doing their job.

Tools to set up clusters or game the system any way you can pretty much throw in the bin, spinners included. However analytical seo tools are still very much a good thing. You ideally also want to be knowing who is reviewing your business and on which platform.

I dont want 50000 visitors a month to sell guruware, I want local relevant traffic. Do you think Google uses the same indicators for a local carpet cleaner? And actually they are in the 'business' of making money out of you, sometimes at the expense of search results, especially recently.

You need to think about how local businesses pre-internet proved to new customers you were the business to trust in and apply that on the web. That's what google is looking for if you don't want to cough up for the exposure.

I have an on line ecommerce site. WWW.realmensmellgood.co.uk. Before this site layout I uploaded over 40,000 products making sure all products had correct details etc etc. After a year or two it took off.

With all the changes to Google (Google Adwords is very costly) the chances of making any in roads are small if not nothing unless it is unique. Going back to the old ways, door to door, posters, flyers, sometimes things like Facebook can help.

I am learning all over again and there is no such thing as an easy sale.

All the above SEO is not worth looking at. Think, the cost of sale compared to the cost of advertising?
