Brick cleaning on new builds??
« on: November 17, 2013, 05:11:05 pm »
Hello,

Has anybody done this?

I know that it should be on the general cleaning section but I don't like socialising with new folk.

Basically, I've been asked to carry this out on a local building site, I presume that the method of cleaning would be by powerwashing.

Thanks in advance for any feedback,

Dean.

Yes we have done this for close to 30 yrs although in the last few years we have done little due to builders reducing any spending .

Brick acid and pressure wash.
Apply acid with a stiffish brush to stained area leave for 5-10 mins and pressure wash off.
dilute acid 50-50 with water and do a test for splahing/ spillage on decorative sills etc.
Often they want area cleaning where the scaffold has been or next to rendering so scaffold may be usable by yourself (save working off ladders).
Oh and check the price they are willing to pay as some guys are doing this for as little as £1.00 per metre.

Hope this is some help.
Craig

Thanks for the replies, there's around 1500sqm of brick to be cleaned. What is the going rate per sqm? We've got the equipment to do it but I'm new to this game. Thanks again, Dean.

Your rams are the hardest thing but if someone could pass them on that would be good for you.

Its unusual that you would be asked to price the brick cleaning direct for the builder the cleaning down is usually always part of the brickwork package on new work refurb its a little different
And generally the bricklayer subs this element of work out
Your works  ie the cleaning down should be covered in his rams

Never the less check access ie tower cherry picker etc etc who supplies  as access is often impared due to landscaping being complete also think about protection to windows railings balconies etc
Builders wont hesitate to bang you for a  few quid if they see evidence of any damage after the pressure washing

Let me know if you get set up for this type of work Dean. I could potentially get you into 17 new build sites that we currently clean, we always pass on the brick cleaning though.

Edit: I should add that I know nothing about prices etc for this type of work.
