I think you have to adopt the tactic I use with phone deals. They don't want to know whatever you say, but when apply for a PAC code watch them fall over themselves to offer you a deal.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Hi Guys

Santander are o.k for basic banking but absolutely useless with anything more complicated.

As some where to pay in cheques etc they are cheap but if you are looking for any sort of finance I would stay well clear.

Cheers

Same or nearly same charges as my business account with Barclays.
My business account is basically the same as my current account at Yorkshire Bank except that my business account charges me for deposits and I don't have an overdraft on it.
So why the charges?? To all intents and purposes it's a bog standard current account.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

I always use Coutts for the more complicated stuff or you could try Williams & Glyn’s

two ways round charges.

1. have a normal current account and get customers to leave the pay to bit blank. So that you can pay them in your name later.

2. a lot of banks will give you 12 months free business banking. once those 12 months are over tell them you are leaving, they might give you more free banking. If not, go to another bank and start again.

HSBC the same. Charge for everything, not recommended.
