a BIG house clean - advice please
« on: October 28, 2013, 10:54:50 pm »
Evening everyone.

We've been asked to quote for a full house clean and have arranged a site visit tomorrow.

This property is massive! Don't know how many bedrooms yet but a defo footballers house/mansion lol.

The property is a repo and the new owners want a full clean done.

Whilst we don't have a problem quoting or doing the job I wondered how everyone would arrange payment?

We usually do much smaller houses and either get paid on completion or up to a max of 7 days after. With this job needing multiple staff and extra equipment do you think we should ask for a deposit (to cover basic costs just in case we have problems getting paid later).

Probably just being too cautious but wondered what everyone else does?

Thanks.

Jo

I guess that's down to your judgement on the person you are working for. Is it the owner? Or a letting agent? If it's the latter then maybe I would or at least arrange to be paid within 28 days. Some people offer 10% of for payment within 7 days.

I personally never get deposits. We did a huge clean a month or so ago, all china, paintings off the walls and cleaned, tapestry taken down for cleaning, it took ages. I never got a deposit and was paid on completion. She was a lovely lady though and the house was 5 mins away from mine so I just didn't ask for a deposit.

I don't ask for a deposit on any works. If you really want to be paid promptly load the quote by 10% and then offer the 10% discount if paid within 14 days. You can put whatever terms you want on your invoice but the client will pay whenever THEY want - non payers and late payers will always be looking for the next firm, you will always be taking a risk of sorts. Always be prepared to walk if you smell a rat - especially if they have rugs and a compass  ;)
