fitting LPG heater in van help
« on: October 23, 2013, 12:43:02 pm »
right lads ive finally got around to trying out a hot water system! ;D

im picking up my eco temp system from corwoods on friday and im planning on fitting it in my van over the weekend ready for monday morning.i have a mate whos done plumbing before so he ll help with setting it up.

right what else do i need?

obviously i need  a bottle of propane.can i buy a 19L self fill one that i can fill up at a garage?

ill need a strap for keeping it secure in van

stickers for van

i need a way of fitting the heater to back door so i probably need some plywood just for the van door.

i use thermobore anyway on reel and a brass swivel elbow.i have a pumpbox so hose out of the heater to the reel will have to be upgraded.what connectors do you use for hooking up to reel as im sure the hoselock will pop off with pressure and heat?or do you cable tie it on?

anything else i need to get lads?

many thanks in advance guys

Before you buy a self fill one you can fill at the garage, check that the garage you plan to use will allow you to fill them on their forecourt.

Many have H&S issues so don't allow this.

Ours has a large notice banning the refill of gas bottles even if they are designed as refillable.

A 2kg (minimum) extinguisher is a sensible addition to the van when you install a heater,.. just in case!

I quite like these too: http://www.fireprotectiononline.co.uk/automatic-fire-extinguishers/

ive just bought a 13kg propane bottle(£34-50 full)£25 to refill.only 2 mins down the road from me so very handy.also 5 metres of high pressure hose and some thick plywood to mount the heater.LPG stickers for van.D cell batteries.

hopefully ill be picking up my heater on friday and get it all fitted over the weekend ready for monday morning.it comes with a regulator so hopefully easy to fit.

once the unit is mounted on the van door is the rest just straight forward?im not sure whether the unit comes with fittings to screw on the thick plywood or not?

so ill have fittings and hose and regulator from gas bottle to unit

hose from pumpbox outlet to water inlet on unit

and unit outlet to reel?

is there any videos of how to do this or is there anybody near the manchester area that have one fitted that could help me with installation this weekend?

cheers in advance guys

be very careful with the gas, make sure you check the connections from the gas bottle to the heater for leaks, if its leaking gas expect your van to go up in flames

Hi Daz, the red gardiners sill brush for heat is a great brush if you're running it really hot, otherwise the medium ones are ok for warm but you do have to remember to let the brush do the work as they flatten out with the heat if you push to hard on the glass, the heaters are easy to fit, if you're not going to flue it then obviously stick it near the back door, once you've hung the heater you will be able to use a hoselock from your pumpbox to the feed in on the heater, the problem then is the hot out to your reel, hoselocks will warp and blow off with the heat and added pressure caused by the heat, we use a red washing machine hose from heater to the reel-it should screw straight onto the heater, we then cut the connector off at the hose end and jubileed this to a spinning hose fitting that we bought from a pressure washing outlet near us, once your used to it there will be many advantages over cold but do remember the heat will show up any flaws in your system from the heater to the end of your brush, hope this helps you can ring if u get stuck, the numbers on the website.

im now going to build a metal frame to mount the heater so theres proper ventilation all around it right next to the back door.ive managed to research and found richard clues helpful video on youtube of his set up.
