I have just had a call from a property manager who I do a lot of carpet cleaning for. He has just taken over the management of a terraced house (which I have not seen yet).

He has a problem with a dirty stone floor. He thinks that (in the past - before his time) someone has laid porous (maybe) ceramic wall tiles on the floor of a house he has just taken over.

He thinks that general dirt, maybe even oil / fat has soaked in.

I am lost for ideas on this one. Is there anything that can be done?

He has said that if it is uneconomical, he would rather just put a new covering over the top.

You need to see the floor. You won't be able to recommend anything until you have seen it, tested it and clarified exactly the results he is looking to achieve. Tred carefully.  If anything has soaked "into" the tiles then it's a bigger job then you think. Pictures would be great.

I will not see it until Monday.

I do a lot of work for him. It was a case of.. "if you can do a quick fix then fine. If not, I'll stick some vinyl down".

I would be happier if he does, to be honest.
