Drying rugs in garage
« on: October 07, 2013, 07:50:43 pm »
Hi folks its getting to that time of year were temperatures are dropping and it gets harder to dry everything. I clean rugs/mats in my garage but need a machine to rise the temperature. What macine is best to heat dry? I dont mean air movers i need something to combine with air movers to raise the temperature.

Still looking for the best option in these circumstances as cost of electric vs price to clean rugs does not balance. Winter and rug cleaning is a challenge. In past have relied on fan heater set to low and longer drying times. Probably do the same this winter.

I have been hanging the rugs over a 6" diameter plastic tube that is held up by a rope that is between two metal loops on opposite walls.  I use one of those opposing thread type things to tighten it up.

Then a drieaz 1200 dehumidifier running with the water pipe out onto the drive.  In a confined space it raises the temperature by a useful amount and I've found it quite effective for drying.

I don't bother with an airmover due to the amount of dust/spiders/assorted crap it throws into the air.

Make a small drying room out of plastic sheets / tarp and as mentioned put a dehum in there, it's the cheapest option & the rug will be dry in the morning,

Find it easier to do them in house in Winter.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.

In my shop, I have indoor grow tent designed for indoor horticulture :( dodgy blokes also use them and hippies)
set them up with couple of fans dry in no time
Will find 2.4m length 2m height by 1.2 m about £90 on eBay
Great with dehumidifier as well

If the cops come use urine remover then no one will know they had weed on them.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Carbon filters used to remove incriminating odours, although a mate of mine left his a bit too long before refilling and his neighbour dobbed him in,all the cops did was take his 10 or so plants and left everything else, lol
