Anyone do this kind of work - I'm off to help a friend who's  tenant had a fire at her flat ( dishwasher caught fire) & she haven't got landlord insurance so has to stump up herself - my friend is also out if country so will be doing the work myself

Luckily no one was hurt & the fire didn't cause that much damage but obviously the smoke damage is pretty extensive especially in kitchen & lounge

Just looking for some tips / advice in how best to tackle this

What solutions / equipment will be required

I've told her I can help for 4 days ( 2 bed flat ) so hoping I can get this sorted in this time

When are you starting the work Jon?  It's just that John is down at the NCCA Carnvial today but I'm sure he'd be happy to talk you through the procedures etc that will be required.  We've actually drawn up an instruction sheet on Fire Restoration.  Basically for that kind of fire you'll  need a high alkaline cleaner and cloths, preferably terry towels....lots of them.  When you're wiping the walls, start from the bottom up.  If you start from the top down and you get 'runs', these are virtually impossible to remove.

The smell will have permeated every nook and cranny in the flat.
Is it a ground floor flat? If so you may need to check the ones above.

Smoke sponges would be useless with this as electrical fires give off a greasy residue which has to be washed off. Smoke sponges are for dry residue removal when natural products such as wood and paper are burnt.
