What machine have you got now?

If you have a good engine and want a bigger pump then just buy a bigger pump.

Triplex pumps are cheap Chinese Cr@p, it'll break within a year (I can tell you first hand)

Triplex usually means it has 3 pistons  ;)

Thanks Jettaway - one to steer clear from then!

However, anything is better than what I have at the moment. I have something similar the Kiam C&*P but under a different name Neilson CT1971 or CT 1791 I can’t remember, so it’s not worth putting a new pump on. You can see my eagerness to upgrade. I will be upgrading all my gear as and when money allows. I made the mistake of buying cheap in the first place, but had no choice when starting out. So any advice from you guys on decent kit is helpful.

BDCS - "Triplex usually means it has 3 pistons" - What's the norm then  ??? What would you recommend around my budget, a decent second hand pump?
Cheers
Andy

Hi mate,

Lee kenny on here (Kenny83) has some good second hand machines come up for sale. Maybe get in touch with him, or he will see this post and get him to keep an eye out for you. Some good buys on eBay too. Do a search on here for what types of machines/engines/pumps are best. Its been done to death. You will be able to get a decent Honda/Yanmar engine with a 15lpm pump on it for that sort of money.

I was exactly the same as you Andy. So changed cheap Chinese pump for an interpump. When the cr@ppy engine gives out I'll put a Honda on it. Can't afford to change an engine that works.

I'd stay away - brass head with internal unloader won't last long, spares won't be easy to get hold of etc. You can get a diesel on e bay which will save loads on fuel, look for something like a Yanmar with an Interpump or the like for your money - or if you prefer petrol a genuine Honda. Most pumps are triplex !

Triplex does mean that, but this pump is still a Chinese model.

Thank you for your help, I will look for a second hand washer. With a Yanmar or Honda are the servicing costs and replacement parts easily available and reasonable?

Regards
Andy

Personally I would save and get new kit because if you don't know what to look for you could quite easily buy a "pup". I know you'll say but I've not got that much but you'll benefit in the long run. I replaced a petrol Honda with a diesel Lombardini and the fuel savings more than paid for the machine in the first season.
