I have recently replaced a Merlin (horrid) with an EZ-Pure.

The EZ-Pure is more 'user friendly' and so far is producing more water faster.

Shame the EZ-Pure DI seems to have been discontinued.

A 4040 will produce plenty of product water, and save you having to upgrade at a later date when you will need more pure.

I balanced up the cost of an Ez-Pure RO which has a 21" membrane against the cost of a 4040 with a 40" membrane.
And decided that I would buy a 4040 as it will produce water faster than the 21" membrane.
I think I paid just over £500 for the one I bought.
Gaps Water Treatment website is worth a look.

vyair sell 4040 systems as well as your 400 gpd, good prices, not checked lately but probably one of the cheapest reputable companies you can purchase from.
As to whether you need a pump ? whats your mains pressure ?
