cleaning asbestos gutters
« on: September 06, 2013, 12:23:21 am »
I occasionally have to clean asbestos gutters with a gutter vac and being asbestos the moss and Crud sticks to them a lot more than plastic and I generally have to give them a bit of a scrape with the nozzle. Is this safe do you think with the type of asbestos used to make gutters?

Go on an asbestos awareness course

We do thousands of gutters and we don't touch asbestos ones

I wouldn't be scraping asbestos. As already said - you shouldn't be touching it really, It needs to be encapsulated. You are opening up a right can of worms.

Walk away!

I went to Bristol to price a clean a couple of years ago, corrugated white asbestos - job value - approx £60 000 - had to walk away.

One of the team has his tickets - We would do it now!

Don't underestimate this field.

They are older. There wont be many properties with them on anymore.

I am guessing on Council houses but I never saw one in all the time I was window cleaning.

Seen a few usually quite wide half moon shaped and very similar looking cast iron
Most have been painted always best to check before starting to clear/clean

If its asbestos we don't touch it
Never argue with an idiot, they will only bring you down to their level, and beat you with experience

cheers for the advice. from what i've read white asbestos which is what most gutters and corrugated roofing etc is made from is much safer than the blue or brown asbestos so i think i'll live touch wood, but i shall steer clear of it in future.

sean, yes i read that after i posted, i won't bother though. do you clean them?

and samson this is what it looks like , although as smudger says it's usually painted.

thanks again
