I pushed facebook recently and I had exactly the same sort of stuff.  Messages asking for quotes and prices and and then they didn't respond.  Seems to be the way!  I just use it as a free way to advertise.

i also posted about facebook a few weeks ago, saying that people were asking for a cheap carpet cleaner as opposed to a good one, since then i have had 9 bookings through f/b, 6 of which cancelled at the last minute, i think when they book they have the best of intentions but when the time comes to have the job done they need to buy their fAgs or booze and their benefits will only stretch so far..

Yes one of the ones I had booked in,brand new 3 story town house, had it booked for a tue,she cancelled as she forgot she had to sign on !!
Spoke to her husband, who I had trouble understanding, due to his thick Irish accent and ended up putting the phone down on him..

yep I've had a few cancel and the selling pages are full of cheapskates but their not all scroungers on benefits. I done one last week for a woman who owns a company who makes sails for yachts on the south coast, To compensate for the cheapness I LM clean most of them as it's fast and it  keeps the hourly rate up. It can fill that gap if you hit a quiet spell  :)

When someone does a Google search for carpet cleaner <area>.... its a fair bet they need one. On Facebook they pick up on something they might be interested in but after they have cracked the next level of candy crush saga.

You are far better off understanding the interests/profile of your best customers and coming at it from that angle.

Wynne has summed it up, although I would add at least fb is free, if only google was. There is a guy near me who advertises on fb, I like to have a read through his status and messages sometimes for a laugh. He seems really really busy but who wouldn't be when he charges £35 for a three peice suite. £14 for a living room carpet and £60 for a full three bed house.
Words fail me, he's welcome to these type of customer.

Hi Neil

Just to clarify, I think FB can be a good source but if you treat it like Adwords you will get very frustrated. In fact I think its ideal for high end work if your business is set up for that - but you need to REALLY know your customers and most don't because they are all things to all men.

FB is not my way of getting work but I have seen it work for other businesses in this way.

Fb for good quality work is pants I have had a few friends that have had work done and they respect a good job which they know I do but I did have one inquiry that came through wanting 'my best price' I just ignored it.

Can You Advise me

I had a spare moment the other day and was inspired by a You tube article on using Facebook

So i started making a Face book  page for Carpet Cleaning only having a small clue on how to do it.

In walks The MD  what are you doing , or I do not think that is a good idea, what is to stop rivals posting nasty things about you ?

So that is my question Can You Control ( delete) Comments

Ian.

You could always try the local selling pages to try to drum up a bit of work. Better than walking the streets with a bag of leaflets for little or no return.

I know a local Wisbech based oven cleaner that claims to get plenty of work from them.

I see a few so called carpet cleaners on facebook with bex bissells and little green george machines that you will be competing against, and even they seem to get bookings with their low end prices.

I think it's a good way of spreading the brand as such, people who see my logo, business name on f/book,then see one of my other adds or my van, but  other than that I am not holding out much hope of booking anything through it.
Did have a request on Wed,guy said his 250ltr fish tank had cracked overnight and dropped the entire contents on his lounge carpet,I said it will be £65 + and he nearly dies !! And I thought that was cheap

Just finished a job today booked via Facebook, £237.30 for 3 hours work, and also booked her neighbour in for Monday afternoon for a 3 piece suite clean.
Yes you are going to get price shoppers who want everything a for nowt, but if you look at it as a good source of fill in jobs and referrals from there then bobs ya uncle.
It costs me about 5 mins a day to do posts on local selling sites. So for sweet FA, I think it's a good return.......that is all.

Hi Steven

Hope you are well

Re Leaflets at present not walking the streets just going with natural flow , but I do remember a few years ago there was an Oven Cleaning Company I think based in Ely and they Leafleted our neck of the woods right out to Spalding and beyond I think I read they had put out 500k of leaflets not sure if they are still around but I think they had at least 5 Vans on the road, but never went in for Oven Cleaning so I lost interest

I do not know if they are advertising in Wisbech but there is a new operator that has appeared while I was ill taking the largest Carpet Cleaning Advert in local paper and I am told they use or were using a Rug Dioctor
