Can Citrus Gel 'go off'?
« on: August 25, 2013, 03:47:25 pm »
I have just opened a bottle that has been on the shelf for 6 years and it's just watery clear liquid, not the white cream I was expecting.

Just wondering of this is the age or if it was a wrong 'un from the beginning  ???

The main ingredients  , The Glycol Esters and isopropanol  are a watery liquid  , the thickening agent may have separated .. perhaps its down the bottom ?  shaking or stirring may bring it back . Otherwise  it must have broken down in some way ... 6 years is fair long time   :)

It has been kept in a garage over the winters. I suppose it would have got down to single figures teperatures.

Not the end of the world - just a £15 pain in the rear.

Hi Guys

Although these products, detergents etc will have stabilisers, anti oxidants  but they will degrade, particularly viscosity modifiers and thickeners.

Product will probably still work though.

Cheers
