Resin
« on: July 31, 2013, 09:33:20 pm »
Checked my water today and shocked to see it was 35 out of DI, but only 24 out of Merlin. Changed resin and all good, but interestingly when I emptied the resin vessel, it was almost devoid of resin, but full of water. Is that normal?

Strange! Defo shouldnt happen!. How full do you fill your resin vessels?.

Could be a number of things-

Bad batch of resin with smaller beads than normal - getting through internal strainer/s.

You have the direction of flow through the vessel the wrong way (some IT DOES MATTER & some it doesn't which way the flow goes regarding resin escape!)

The internal strainer/s are faulty (old, maybe need replacing)

The riser tube is dislodged inside the vessel.

Up to the shoulder. I filled this time to very near the top though. I don't seem to get the use out of resin that Gariner's calculator implies. I probably use about 1800-2000 litres a week and my resin starts to go off by week 3. I then stick a second DI 11" vessl in front and kep changing the resin in that.

One tip I will give you is to fill the vessel with water once you've put new resin in. Once the resin is suspended in the water it's much easier to get the riser tube back in & lined up with the neck threads. If you don't put water in all that pulling & pushing could dislodge the riser tube. ;)

That is very sound and welcome advice.

but never use tap water to fill up,use pure out of a barrel instead ;)

That's just a myth Franky, makes no difference whatsoever mate, DI's are fed tap water during normal use.

I just cleaned my windows with 25tds (the last of the dodgy water above, mixed with half 0 tds) and dried just about perfect. A couple of spots, but they might have been there anyway.  ;) ;D
