Handepay - what a rip off!!I
« on: August 02, 2013, 12:24:16 am »
I`ve been using Handepay for my credit card machine and emailed them this week asking if they could send me either another new terminal or a reconditioned one as mine had been destroyed in my recent van fire. They sent a curt message back asking for £365 + vat and said that handepay would pay £50 towards the terminal. I thanked them but asked to pay up the rest of my 7months left of the contract at £31 per month. Got another curt email back saying that as I hadnt given 12 months notice, my contract has been extended for another 2 years `as I agree when I signed the contract`. It`s only when I`ve gone back over and read the small print that I`ve found it. This was never mentioned to me when I took the contract out. Paul Elliot has sent me various links to people having exactly the same problem. So to get out of the contract, they want 31 payments of £31 plus the £365 for the terminal. Nice lot aren`t they!!
If anyone is thinking of using Handepay... Dont!! They are a complete con!!!

Until destroying thier terminal were you happy with thier service?

Admit defeat and buy a new terminal, maybe they will allow you to increase your monthly charge to cover the £365 rather than pay it up front.

Or tell them the contract contravenes the Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 and is unenforceable and you will see them in court

Or call thier bluff and tell them your are a struggling carpet cleaner Who is penniless, if they take you to court they will get  £2 a month

They cannot extend the contract without giving you another 14 day cooling off.

With regards the handset, it seems fair to me that you pay for a replacement, however I'm surprised they don't include insurance like a mobile phone company would.
