QCF Assessment
« on: July 20, 2013, 09:55:49 am »
Hi Everybody

Need some information

What assessment did you do
The assessor came to you to see you working
Was it using ladders or water fed pole
Did anybody do flat roof access

One big question is how did you make the area safe ,was it just by using cones or did you totally make sure nobody could get into your working area by put up big barriers

The assessing was done at the course no one came out to see me working on my own work, the ladder training involved looking for defects on ladder putting ladder up against the wall and climbing it just once, to receive the certificate for the ladder training part of course I think was an extra £120.
No flat roof access was undertaken as by Andrews assessment he deemed this to be against current health and safety laws.

Hi Bryan
Yes the certificate was done at the same time as all other training, all people on the course did the ladder training but only ones willing to pay the extra got the certificate and yes you did get it right no one came out to see us working on our own rather we where assessed by cleaning a few windows at the training site.

Two of my lads have just done the course

Day 1
  8.30 - 3.30
Day 2
8.30 - 1.30 including the ladder training, which we have to pay £50 if we want that certificate.

As far as I know, the assessor is not coming out to assess them, so i assume they were assessed on the day

Three of us went through our NVQ/QCF assesment. Yes they did come out and see us working on the job. We did not cordon off, we used cones. We where cleaning residential houses, so with no height greater than say 18 foot and we where using WFP. We also done some ladder stuff.

I was assessed on one of our commercial sites when doing the NVQ through Impact43. I made sure area was cordoned off using cones and tape, as it had been discussed in our training previously. My employee is currently doing the QCF through our local College.  He has been assessed a number of times so far and no cordoning off has taken place.  His Assessor has noted the use of warning cones and signs in the paperwork, nothing mentioned about cordoning off.

Did an on-site appraisal. We are WFP. Training by Impact43.

We chose the house we were to clean for the appraisal. My son and I did the course together and cleaned the chosen house together. We chose a cul de sac with a pedestrian path at the end. We 'signed' it up so people could see the warning signs when they walked past. The weather was wet and raining on that day.

My son did the back of the house and I did the front. We walked the examiner round the back first and pointed out the trip hazards that the window cleaner would need to consider when doing the job. For example there are a lot of pot plants around the patio as well as a step up into the garden. So stepping back needed special care. My son used his backpack standing on the ground, so this was also highlighted as a potential trip hazard. He took photos of him working as evidence.

Once he was finished with my son he came round the front and did the same for me. I pointed out hazards and explained why we had put our signage where we had. Although we didn't cordon off the area, a wall and the position of the house ensured that we were situated well within a drop zone should I trip and drop the pole. Photos were also taken of me working.

He also wanted to see what we did with regard to reeling the hose in. It isn't easy to reel a hose in as your attention is layering it on the reel rather than looking for people walking about. As you are working, talk about what you are noticing around you. It reminded us when we took our advanced driver course overseas. As we were driving, we were verbally reporting what we were seeing and made the examiner aware of what hazards could occur as we were coming up to the junction, what car was behind us etc - it was a running commentary

We were only appraised on the one house, although we were prepared to carry on and clean the house next door if need be.

Before the appraiser arrived, I confirmed with the house owner what was happening and got her approval for the test to be done on her property. She was quite excited about this and we did the job for nothing as a thank you, despite her wanting to pay for it.

It took a while for the certificate to come and she asked on several subsequent cleans if we past or not. She was actually quite thrilled that she was part of the process when we eventually did get our certificates.

My employee did their last course in Milton Keynes, we have heard nothing from them ref assessments or the ladder training cert I'm meant to be paying for, as they have now lost the funding is this a different attitude we are seeing. I'm considering wether to ring the college up rather than impact.

Bryan if you have any questions regarding the QCF process please give Andy or myself a call and we will be happy to run through them.

Trevor the QCF process works different for every candidate depending on the amount of evidence we get, your work during the practical assessments and the evidence you produced was of the highest standard meaning we did not need to complete any extra assessments with you.

If any candidates who have been on the course have any queries please feel free to call me on 01205 364333 and i will be happy to discuss any issues and if then you feel they still have not been resolved i will be happy to provide you with the name and phone number of a contact at the college.
