waste removal for an office

this is our first time we've been asked to quote to remove commercial waste for a new customers so i'm looking for some advice.

from what i understand we need a waste removal certificate and have each vehicle that removes waste have a copy. this is approx £150 p/a?

we've contact a couple companies to get quotes for waste bags, looking approx £2.50 per bag, which gets collected once a week.

i'm not sure how this works, i've emailed back for an explanation but still waiting, but i assume we'd leave the rubbish out in the high street the night before and it gets collected?

trouble i'm having with this site is it's only 2 days per week with minimal hours, there is no parking until after 6pm and then it's a small narrow street with houses along too so we'll be fighting for a spot, and the site has no where for storage of materials so carrying vac and mop etc which could be a pain, and now rubbish removal as they don't have any where for this at all, so again a pain as for how we work i can't see how this would fit in, i can't imagine other companies get their cleaners to keep hold of the rubbish or bring it to our office which is in the next town.

pita this one is, almost to the point i may say can't do it or just give a silly price and accept the issues if they say yes.

The big question is how much waste ? to carry it you need a waste carriers licence which is about £150 for 3 years and you pay to tip it by weight which here is £50+vat/tonne. You need the brokers bit on your waste carriers form to store in at your premises where you can buy the purple bags that the council flog for business waste. I think you need a sic code for the waste from the generator of the waste but not from domestic premises. Thats what happens down here but your council may be different. Why can't they just buy the bags and save you the trouble

we're talking 1 recycle bag, 1 general waste bag per visit, so 4 bins a week at most, maybe then also some cardboard from time to time which would be even more of an issue i hadn't thought of.

Hi Adam, Various issues with the waste collection at the site you've mentioned. I clean for four local businesses and all the waste is put into large green wheelie bins weekly by myself and the business staff. There's a lot of paper waste and other crap generated in a week, even in a small office! You don't want to be collecting/owning it at your office. There's also the risk of leaving any waste outside overnight. You don't know if any of the waste is of a sensitive nature, which in my experience does happen often. I.e., business info and details, info on staff issues and addresses, bank details etc. All can be picked-up and used by unscrupulous bin bag sifters. And you as the cleaning contractor WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE for any security issues.

My advice would be to discuss with the prospective customer, the issue of waste disposal. In the it's their waste, only they know what's in it and how much they create. personally from all you've posted I would not want to be responsible for its removal, if there is no where on site to have it stored safely and taken away.

thanks for the advice. i'll go back to the customer with the above and see what they say. it's too much of an issue for little reward.
