My 4040 membrane is still going strong after four and a half years water is 240 from tap and
coming out at 10. about 2000 litres per week.
Flush once a week for half an hour and about 10 mins before each fill.
Change pre filters 3 times a year. Both 10in economy filters.
To be honest I don't look after the R.O. that well.
Just wondering why do so many on here seem to be getting a lot less time.
Do you think is it down to luck or the way their systems are set up ?
The experts seem to think that a membrane should last at least 5 years.

Had my 650gpd about 7 months now,450 ish ppm output of about 15-20 ppm 
My old 200gpd was about 3 years old and produced at about 4-5ppm.

Put 2 x 200 GPD membranes in my RO about 9 months ago.
From a TDS of 280ppm in it's now producing nearly 40ppm out. 
Pre-filters have been changed twice.
So I can only put it down to either: Poor quality membrane manufacture, high chlorine in water or bacterial contamination.

Have been told that you should always start with the R.O. at the flush position when
starting to make pure.
Then adjust it to the filter making position slowly.
The reason is that pressure should be allowed to build up in the R.O. slowly failure
to do this could cause damage and shorten the lifespan of the membrane.
Same when going from flush to filtering.
Anybody else heard of this.

I bought a 300gpd ro from gardiners in 2006. Changed the filetrs once and same membranes.
Use 1500 - 2000 litres p/w.
Tap tds is high 400's ppm and comes out at 9ppm.
I do flush often.

10 years 11 months. Just ordered a new one as its now giving out 14 TDI and I dont use resin. Water pressure is 70 psi and tgs at tap is 125.
Talk to the Lady at Gaps water for advice.

I only changed mine tonight. I flush once a week for an hour, but this is my 5th one only get 2yrs.

June at Gaps says your wasting your time flushing that much. It is only removing partials stuck on the outside of the membrane and not internally flushing the crap out

Also the small units give a better percentage of removal than the 4040 units. So the price is speed against slow but lower TDS.

No. Our 450GPD RoMan r/o membranes lasted 6 years. Not flushed very often and just 'kicked on' when the float switch activated the 'Normally off' solenoid valve. No soft start.

Our 4040 is a year old and just as efficient as it was a year ago. Gets flushed now and then when I have time and only for a few minutes.
