I've got a despatch 2.0 hdi with a 500 litre fitted tank the van runs fine think you may struggle with a 1.6 especially up hill they lack power but depends on tank size hope that helps

^^^^^ Yeah I'd go with that mate
I've got the 2.0 hdi and pulls great - driven a couple of others that were older with less power and hated them

I have the 1.6 Dispatch 2007 fitted with a 650 litre tank.
No problems with it what so ever and easy on fuel.
Just went through its 4th. m.o.t. with nothing more than a new set of tyres and
brake pads.
If doing high miles them maybe the 2 litre might be better.
Dispatch and Expert are the same van with a few cosmetic differences.

The 1.6 has a reputation of being far less reliable and sensitive to oil changes than the 2.0HDi. Especially related to the turbo feed mesh oil filter.

The turbo goes and wrecks the engine.
It's a game of three halves!

From somebody who has been driving a 1.6 Dispatch for 5 years I can honestly say
I have never had a problem with hills or power.
Yes you wont get a 100 miles an hour from it with a full 650 litre tank but would you
want to be driving at that speed with that amount of water and weight in the back.
Cant say about reliability as have only owned this one vehicle but mine runs great
and has cost me nothing in repairs.
If I had to buy another van tomorrow it would be the same.
