After 12 months (almost) daily use, yesterday I burnt out one of the Ametek Lamb Vac 3-Stage Motors in my machine: Smoke, rattle and grinding noise!

It happened while cleaning a wool/silk rug in 27c heat!  Rugs (+stair tool) seem to hammer my machine!

I've ordered 2 replacement motors (I'll change the pair), and can fit myself, so no big deal.

How long do these motors last you?

I've just had one go pretty much a year to the day I replaced it and at the same customers house. Very spooky.

Don't replace both if one is fine!! What machine do you have?

I've gotten an extra 6+ months use out of a vac motor when I replaced the other. Keep it as a spare.

Ametek Lamb vacs are rated at 500 hours which is about a year for a busy operator. I've gotten over 600 hours before. My old Airflex machine had a handy hours counter on it.

These vac units can last almost indefinitely if the brushes are checked/ changed at 400 hrs. If you keep a record of actual hours run over a month, tedious, I know, then you can estimate when to do a service.
This is simple enough and there are vids on yuotube of exactly how to do it.
Brushes are around 25-30 a pair and will save you pounds.

What is involved in a service? Filling up the water tank and emptying the waste?

well for example, checking the vac mtr brushes can stop the motor burning out and can extend the serviceable life of the motor by up to 2 or 3x.
