Hi Ian, on my one ive had it for 12 years now (Its not had daily use mind...) i have not yet had to replace the motor yet, which is suprising as one of my friends owns a fish & chip restaurant & the soilage is intense for my machine & powerbrush (thick pile wool with heavy grease soilage..) gives all my gear a real workout... & tbh thats where ive had to replace most of my belts...or very shortly thereafter lol.
i buy a few belts each time on the odd occasion i go to Ashbys & i believe that they were somewhere in the region of £9-£10 each & yes, i think you are right about the bearings... you have to buy the whole new brush unit & I cant honestly remember how much that was, But i think it was somewhere around £70-£90... but definately not over £100
But saying that, when the brush unit does "Go" usually there is nothing visibly wrong with it...ie:- all the bristles still appear fine & would last a lot more jobs... So i think i will study one of my old brushes to see if with a bit of B@stardization new bearings would fit... ill ask around & try myself & post results as i find them... Unless anyone else has already done this & could advise?
Also i have learned that many internal mech parts can be found online via Ebay etc... this is another way to save some money too... like for example ive just bought 2 genuine "LambElectric vac motors" 1500w each for £190 inc delivery... where i phoned ashbys & it was pretty much the same price for 1.
& when it comes to changing the internal mechs i just take lots of pics from different angles & then just remove & replace exactly as before... Ive saved quite a bit of money like that now
I have yet to find a "Belt" or "Brush" supplier other than Ashbys yet... but i keep looking
As to what else there is in a new one... the only other things that I could Personally see to change would be the jet/nozzles & the Viewing window (in the main shell/housing) & the usual suspects for the hose/trigger etc
I have found the results i get with this unit overall very good! & that justifies me keeping hold of mine... at least for now anyway....
