never stayed around long enough after to know whether it actually leaves a mark - tho i have towelled off but still left wet marks, so dont know whether completely invisible when dry?

Most wands have splash guards and i've never had a massive problem and just wipe with a towel if there is anything. Not used a walk behind but could you not just use a piece of plastic or sheet rubber and stick it along the side with gaffa tape

Roll & stroll. Decorators floor covering. They do 1 for hard floors (thicker) & 1 for carpets. Self adhesive, low tack, sticks to walls. You can cut a roll (1m wide) in half.

I have never had to protect walls on a carpet job. Always on floor restorations, if on carpet you need to take a look at your methods. On the odd upholstery job I have protected wall paper in case of overspray but that's only been when solvent cleaning. Something I haven't done for 10+ years
