Don't make this mistake!
« on: April 15, 2013, 05:05:17 pm »
Hallo All,

Recently sent out via the 'Royal mail' hundreds of Spring Clean Special Offer postcards.

Designed them myself, good deal on the printing, went for a slightly different size, an A5 long which actually measures 105 x 297mm. Got myself a load of second class stamps, got them all sent off, and prepared for the phone to ring.

Nothing happened.

Then I started to get a few calls of complaint. My customers had received a card from the post office demanding an extra £1.19  for delivery, (£1.00 handling charge and 19p extra on the postcard), obviously they are not impressed.

A second class stamp would normally have been fine, but in this case the postcard exceeded there standard letter maximum length. This made it a large letter, hence the extra charge.

When mailing stuff in bulk, check that it's within the post office size restrictions, or risk wipeing out your customer base in one swoop.

Problem is the size restrictions are not displayed on those post office letter sizing slot things.

Iv'e now got to contact hundreds of customers and apologise.

That could now work in your favour, you could now offer them their money back,  plus a discount on cleaning (that's after you put your prices up). You have one foot in their door. Good marketing ploy.  ;D

Daren, have you ever heard this phrase?

"It's better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission"

AS Mark says, you may come out of this OK

last person that said that to me was a Priest!

Luckily it was in reference to planning permission for a new garage.

When a priest asks about putting an single length by your rear access, he's not talking about a garage.
