Anybody still advertise in the local newspaper ?
« on: April 12, 2013, 04:34:52 pm »
Over a year ago I used to put an ad in my local 'free' newspaper.
Went to about 20,000 homes in my town, cost me £20 per week and got a fair return but more importantly had a presence. Every week people would see my ad, my logo, my service etc

It all changed when people had to pay for the local rag...advertisers pulled out in thier droves including myself. The opinion was no one would buy it.
I've just enquired about placing my ad back in...they sell around 800 per week (a far cry from 20,000).

I could personally deliver 800 leaflets probably cheaper...
do newspaper ads still work tho  ??? ???

They do but research indicates that newspaper ads attract the lower end of the market.

I now and again use newspaper ads, the nice thing about it is the offer free artwork so get them to design me a couple of nice ads which I keep for future use,

plus I tell the sales rep if they have  any space they want to get rid of it might be worth calling me ......but only if its cheap

We adverise in the local paper, costs us £15 per week but get a decent return from it,

Andrew been looking at google adwords, what do you get for your £5 per week and do you do it direct with google or use someone else.

Warren Aldridge did mine, he comes on here now n again,
I think some others too, maybe Ash White I think also does campaigns.

I have it targeting Carlisle rather than home town of Penrith,
brings in average £2-300 month, so not a bad return

£32 per week but sold in 7 large towns.
Get 5 or 6 calls from it a week usually w/e
or Monday mornings.
It goes out Wednesday to one town, Thursday
to 2 others and the rest Friday.
2/3 jobs per week from it so it pays for itself.
Find it's mainly the older generation with no
computer who use it so a lot of the work is
either single room or 3 piece from it.
Usually nice places to work as well.
Find most of my sh*t work comes via mobile
phone calls.
Impossible done straight away, miracles can take a little longer.
