Blog post ideas?
« on: April 08, 2013, 08:48:57 pm »
I have to write 4 blog posts for my new site by tomorrow.

Any title / subject suggestions greatly appreciated.

And before the comedians start, they have to be about carpet cleaning  ;D

What you have to look at is, what is a blog or article.

1, does it gain interest from the reader?
2, is it credible... or just old stuff re written?
3, does it realy kick ass? (because this is what will gain traffic to your site)

Carpet cleaning blogs are 2 a penny (that your gunna have to compete with) and theres a whole pooload of them.... just choose a subject on Google.

''So what you have to think of first is what are people searching for before you write your blog.'' not reallly what youd like to write about

So heres the tip....what do people search for? And then respond accordingly ;)

Any reason you need 4 posts straight away?

Personally I wouldn't bother unless you are happy plugging away for months writing a post every week or so around keywords for cc and local stuff going on. A flurry of posts then nothing is the most common mistake.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Because the site is going live and if there's no blog posts then it'll be full of Lorem Ipsum text

Owen, just go into your Wordpress dashboard and delete the posts before it is published.

As Wynne says, four at once and then nothing is probably far worse than one every week.

How many words does a blog have to be?

I would think a 100 word blog would be easy to  do 3 times a week

Are they meant to be keyword specific? Or any old drivel

I'm trying to recall the point at which I said I was going to do four and then never touch it again.

Ermmm....I didn't. I'm going to do four and then do one a week.

Ill be very impressed if you are in a few months time. Not saying you won't, early success helps but is not usually forthcoming.

You're right Wynne, barely worth the bother really. I'll just go and chuck myself down a mine.

Owen, I don't think Wynne is trying to be funny with you.

He must be one of the most experienced and knowledgeable Wordpress users on here, so it's worth listening to what he has to say.

If you are going to use your site's blog for marketing effectiveness, there has to be a plan.

Throwing out four posts at once, rather than spreading them over say, four weeks is in essence, a waste of three blog posts. It also means a lot of work for you in a very short space of time and makes it harder to keep the quality high. There is also less reason for people to return to your blog if you give them everything up front

It's a simple matter to either delete those Latin filled "posts" or to hold them back and use them later. Did the designers not mention this in their training?

Fair point Gary, I just thought it was a bit negative that's all. I've got about 11 hours work a week at present so spirits are low - just ignore me  ;)

I agree with you about the 4 posts at once. The thing is, the way the site has been designed means that that 4 articles feature in headline form on the bottom of the homepage, so obviously it was best to get that part sorted. That is the ONLY reason for putting out 4 at once.

I agree though - the blog will have to be drip-fed from now on at regular intervals.

Owen, looking at the layout perhaps the easiest way (without messing with code) is to literally do an opening paragraph for each one. This should fill the home page "gaps". You can then go back in later and flesh out the articles (you only need to press the update button).

The site will ping the search engines and each post will be looked upon as fresh / updated.

Going back to Wynne's point about weekly stuff, it's not going to be easy to write a weekly post that's carpet cleaning related. Compare this to say, a customer of mine who owns several garden centres. He could probably write a daily blog and not run out of material.

If you wrote about other stuff related to what's happening in your local area, would this have any value from an SEO point of view? In so much as you'd be using the names of local places?

The SEO benefit nowadays comes from people visiting, staying and then returning to/recommending your site. If what you write is relevant to them then I don't see why not. To be honest, it's something I've often thought about but never put into action. Just remember it's a carpet cleaning site

Heritage

I use an active blog on my website. I use it to showcase works we do but more importantly for me it shows that we are current and it generally always carries pictures of us doing works or before & after photos.

I have just updated it tonight

Rob ;D
