does the tax man require a full list of all custys and all one offs etc , or does he just want a rundown of anual turnover
My first visit with the Receiver when I started window cleaning was that they required a list of names and address of all work done and pricing.
I didn't have an issue with that as being in sales and after sales service all my working life, record keeping of customer details was expected. We weren't selling tins of baked beans at a little corner shop.
When I asked why the receiver needed it, I was told that if they called me in for an annual review (alright, investigation), they reserve the right to contact my customers to verify my tax return. I was a littled puzzled, so they told me that they would ask me how many times I had cleaned windows for customer A, and then they would write to customer A asking how many times that period I had cleaned their windows to verify my accounts.
I said something I shouldn't have in response to that. Over the years I have only ever had 1 customer that wrote down on her calendar when I had been and when I was next due. She's dead now. All the others wouldn't have a clue how many times I had cleaned them during the 2011/2013 tax year if they asked them today for example.
This is of course quite worrying, as a customer might just guess. If they over guess, then don't be surprised if the Receivers takes their word as against my computer records generated by George.
