« on: January 19, 2013, 12:48:03 pm »
Interested in this but very much put off by the price of ther Ionics system. Anyone have this and if so is it worth the money?
Also seen the system on ebay which heats water in the van....

By the way, I am using an emmersion heater in my static tank currently but the water only stays warm for a few hours - up to lunchtime if lucky

only worth the money if you can afford it and justify buying a fully fitted kit.

you water should stay warmer than till lunch time perhaps you need to up the thermostat or leave the element on longer
during the night

We have an Ionics hot system

I cannot compare it to a 175 pounds gas system because we dont have one - however I suppose they are just as good if the water comes out hot

Immersion user here - in van, not static.

650L layflat tank. Installed sideways across van behind cab bulkhead.
Immersion (3kw/240 volt) bottom left rear of tank (looking in from rear doors.)
Dedicated old shurflo pump and battery and charger for circulating water to avoid hot/cold spots.
Timer for immersion.

Cold day forecast, less than 6 degrees I want supple hoses. Put timer on for 4 hours overnight, no recirculation used.

Colder day but above zero. Timer on for 6 hours, recirculation may be used

Colder again zero to minus 3, leave on all night use recirculation.

Colder than minus 3 - may work if dry.

I have no experience of gas/diesel water heater but have a hot tap from my house boiler outside which if I am doing a filthy and large all day first clean like a school (rare) I fill one of my tanks with hot tap water (40 degrees) and use it for the first wash and then the second van with pure to finish.

If I did this more then I would deffo invest in a hot water heater on board.

It's a game of three halves!

When I got my hot system 18 months ago I looked at Ionics and pure freedom, they both use the same heater a webasto 9kw but pure freedom were 3k cheaper
So I opted for the pure freedom system which has been fantastic and the service and support from pure freedom is first class,

I use hot all the time winter and summer In my opinion it cleans better and it's a lot quicker on first cleans and on windows with lots of bird muck on

So in my opinion I think it's well worth the investment having a professional hot system fitted I know others will have a different opinion but each to their own

not worth it for this weather its pointless, to start with the hot water freezes faster on the glass and ground and you cant have it coming through hot you have to turn tempreture down or you will crack windows even double glazed ones!!
