Thinking of adding this to my services, if it works then it'll provide a regular fixed (ish) income and more importantly may act as a feeder to the PW side of thing's as the customer gets to know me etc.

I'm thinking along the lines of a second hand trailer mount, can anyone here advise upon pros and cons of a brand or model or what to look out for? Some operate with a lift mechanism and some you chuck into the back of a semi enclosed boxed area to give a wash down.

Also, is it possible for one man to do 150 bins on a typical outing with one of these trailers as this is what is advertised by these units with a 300 litre capacity?

I've already got in touch with my water company and local council and it's doable in that regard so it's really down to me and sorting out someone to help out.

Just to give you a nudge. 

The big problem with wheelie bins round here, and the reason so many washers have disappeared, is not the cleaning its the co-ordination. Three different bins emptied on different days, and three times the price to the customer. It seems to be the legit cleaners that have gone, they couldn't hold it all togeather. Having to do the same round three times over and obviously a lot fewer customers drives your productivity way down. You are simply not going to get 150 customers in a day realistically.


You may want to look into that aspect of the business before you get in too deep and commit yourself because they are all gone from round here and there were a few well established outfits

Thanks for your reply, this is something I've already thought of and as for me I couldn't really grasp the whole wheelie bin idea initially as it's my wife whose pushing me. I mean the idea of getting your bins cleaned doesn't really seem like a logical buisness idea but as you can see people do want it done.

As for my locality the bins are picked up one week recyclables and organic waste the other and somewhere inbetween garden waste. Bearing that in mind you could possibly visit the same property each week but i would recon that you'd more likely do the smelly organic waste every other week. I've no competition round here with lots of OAP's who like to keep thing's clean. There are lots of window cleaners although the money isn't good compared to other parts of the UK (10 quid for a typical house).

Thank you for your e-mail of 16 November 2012. I am sorry you still feel that the Environment Agency has not helped you sufficiently with this matter. 

In relation to your concerns, where pollution is identified to a water course by a third party then we will take appropriate action. In our last correspondence on 6 November we highlighted that this is not an easy task.  It is difficult to trace the originator of effluent into the surface water drains. It remains the responsibility of the sewerage undertaker to control discharges into the public sewerage systems. Anyone discharging into a public sewer should consult and obtain consent from the sewerage undertaker to ensure that it is suitable to receive these types of waste.

As stated in our previous letter to you on 6 November we have made the water authority aware of this issue in the  area. I can assure you that we will also continue to take forward the actions as listed in that letter.

We now consider that this issue is closed as we are unable to offer further information other than what has been previously provided. If you are not satisfied with our response to your email you can contact us to ask for our decision to be reviewed.  If you are still not satisfied following this, you can then make an appeal to the Local Government Ombudsman at:-
