ive checked all the wiring.its fine and fuse is working.any ideas lads?

The old electronic 'fix' is to remove the battery terminal so the item can power down and let any residual voltage drain away. This will take a couple of minutes. Connect up again.
If that doesn't work, then I would again disconnect the power by removing the battery terminal a second time. Each of the pads is a microswitch. If you press it you should hear the switch clicking. If you can't hear and feel that on the on/off switch pad then there may be a bit of dirt behind it (how it would get there is another question though.) I would remove the 4 faceplate screws and carefully lift off the faceplate. Carefully disconnect the electrical connector with the 4 wires on the circuit board (it pushs on so pull it back). There are 3 plastic nuts which hold the circuit board to the face plate. If you very carefully undo those nuts with a tiny socket (5.5mm I think it is) then carefully remove the circuit board from the faceplate.
You should be able to operate the pad switches with a plastic point, ie pda stillus or maybe even you finger. Check for any swarf, muck etc that could be restricting the operation of this switch not only on the circuit board but also the pad on the faceplate. You could try connecting the circuit borad back up to the connector block and connecting the battery terminal back on, but making sure that the board isn't touching anything to short it out. Try operating the microswitch now.
If not, then I would consider giving Williamson's a ring on Monday morning. They have a good technical dept who maybe able to advise you, but I would probably replace it at this stage.
edited: I have just opened my Varistream and its the identical circuit board used on the Brodex controller.
Here is the link to replacing theirs.
