Gutter Cleaning - Equipment needed?
« on: November 20, 2012, 11:32:47 am »
Hi All,

Ive decided to offer my existing customers gutter cleaning to bring in some additional work. I am going to employ a friend when doing it to foot the ladder etc.

Other than that are there any tools/equipment that you would recommend I buy?

At this stage Im not interested in a guttervac due to cost.

I am also planning on only doing gutters that are safe to access - so no climbing on sloped roofs. Any specifc tools need to reach awkward gutters from the ground?

Cheers,

Caleb

Drain rods are handy. Get into the middle and pull it towards you. Means only one ladder climb.

One of these too though my local hardware store sells them £3 cheaper

Gutter vacuums have come down a lot in price, for the safety aspect its not something to completely ignore, there are a lot of cheap ones out there.

Otherwise as an example - we do an agitation tool that screws onto a water fed pole which you could use to break up debris and flick out.

Hi BlueFrog,

Does that half moon screw onto a traditional window cleaning pole?

Simon - Do you have a link for the agitation tool?

Cheers,

Caleb

You can buy the drop scraper from Screwfix. Cheaper than ebay.

Update:

Bought the half moon and 3.65m rod set. Used it today. Did the job fine. The rod set is in 4 sections. Using 3 sections is pretty crap as there is too much flex but you can get by with it. I wouldnt even bother with 4 sections. 1 and 2 sections are fine though. Also make sure you tighten the half moon frequently as it comes loose after a while.

Cheers for recommending lads.

Just becareful!

A guy I sold a lot of work too years ago just had a nasty fall!!

Broke his pelvis, ribs, arm & head injuries.

I was contemplating my gutter vac as it can be a pain in the Harris, but I'll be keeping it for the foreseeable future.

Good luck.
Life used to be full of up's and downs....now i hardly ever get up a ladder :) .
