yes - as per williamson Pumps fitting instructions. The Varistream is connected up to the red and black wires going to the pumps motor. The remaining wire is disguarded.

left mine connected, as i didn't wan't to chop the wire on a brandnew pump.
its also a good backup to leave in place, incase you needed to run without the controller temporarily.

Hi I suspect you are looking at a PF flowmaster ( 3 button 3 Digit LED)  and not the Varistream. The flowmaster is designed to work with the pump PS connected. This is a different engineering approach to how the PS is monitored.

I find this quite an interesting comment.

We bought our first Varistream as the cost of replacing Shurflo pressure switches was expensive - we didn't know of the Maplin replacement micro-switch back then. So when I connected up the newly purchased Varistream, I didn't have a functioning pressure switch at the time. I knew from a long, tense conversation with Williamson's that this Varistream, that I begrudgingly spent the money on, was to replace the pressure switch. So I was preconditioned to doing that.

Under normal circumstances I probably would have left the pressure switch connected as a secondary backup had the pressure switch been working.
A fellow window cleaner locally, also with a Shurflo pump and newly acquired Varistream, did leave the pressure switch connected. Believe it or not he just couldn’t get the Varistream to work correctly. It was only later that he followed the connecting instruction to the letter, did he remove the pressure switch from the circuit and from then on he has had no problems. (He still has the same Varistream).
In his case removing the pressure switch from the circuit was the answer. It could have been that the contacts in the switch were starting to burn and the resistance caused due to this was confusing the Varistream settings – I don’t know. But Williamson, the Varistream manufacturers, recommend the pressure switch is disconnected, so they must have a valid reason for this instruction.
