agree with all of the above but the key element is to always stay motivated, it's easy to get despondent if u have a couple of difficult customers, keep them and use them as a tool to build your business, if I get a messer I don't drop them immediately but their days are numbered and it just spurs me on to canvass more..!
if I want to drop one messer at say a tenner I will pull in another £100 worth then drop, you really have to stay fired up, your coming into a saturated market but you can still pull in money and build a business if u have staying power, search for motivation by reading about other peoples success, watching business program's and surround yourself with people you want to be like, I have started really communicating with new customers explaining that to use our services they have to if possible stick to schedule etc etc etc, anyone can clean windows not everyone can run a successful business, I have built up to just short of 3k a month purely by canvassing, it has taken me 18 months, the other day I spotted 5 different window cleaners in one small area of where I live, the work s still there to be had, I think the most important thing to remember is that people buy people not services or products ( obviously as long as your standards are high) your first impression is the one thing that will get you the work so make sure you have a professional approach and a friendly attitude and you will be ok..hope this helps

great reply graham, really motivated to het canvassing myself. What did yoi find most successful to say. Thanks

goes a bit like this" hello I'm just in the area promoting a professional window cleaning service would you like to us to add you to the round, we're city and guilds qualified, crb checked and fully insured, we do all the frames as well as the glass and follow all the relevant health and safety guidelines" I do tweak it depending on who I'm talking to and try and have a laugh with them also, important thing is first impression and try to get them to like you quite quickly, always wear a uniform, don't stand to close to the door,I always knock and then step back, if they have a window cleaner I never undercut I simply hand them my card and ask them to keep it safe in case they get let down by their cleaner, I always ask them to look at my website in case there is a service there that their present cleaner doesn't offer, 1- it will get your ratings up, 2- you never know if they add u to their favourites for future reference, 3- you may offer a service their cleaner doesn't, I have had a bit of Guttervac work and the odd conservatory roof from this approach, another thing I do is I regularly re card streets I have carded before, it really works, hope this helps, give me a ring if u want to chat, numbers on the website ..!
