Hi all,

I currently have a tank in my van and a 2 reel setup which I've been using for years, very happy with that way of doing things.

However, with the winter months approaching and a move in 3 weeks that would see me unable to put a heater in my van I'm thinking about my options.

One of which would be to invest in a trolley system and some barrels and go about things like that over the winter months/colder days when my system is frozen up.

I'm also looking into hot water setups with frost protect etc, but I can't guarantee my van will be near my new house and I don't want to attract attention to the van from those who might wish to break into it if they hear the pumps going etc.

Can anyone offer any thoughts/input on the advantages/disadvantages on using a trolley set up after using a reel set up?

It will be a bit slower but isn't everything in the winter.
What ever gets the job done mate. It would soon pay for its self if you can't heat the van and loose 3 or 4 days

i use a trolley and barrells and its hard work draging it about am looking at van set up but if thats what you have to do its better than trad

i think your mad to move over to a trolley system.just buy a propex heater or something similar so you can heat the van.

im around 20% faster using a van mount rather than trolley and im not lugging barrels and filling up all the time.

I'm only considering it at present.

The Propex system is an option.  I'm just a little concerned about leaving the van unattended away from the house over night with this system running.  That's my draw back with the Propex.

your risking doing your back in if you move over to trolley plus youll be slower.why dont you just bring pump in overnight with poles and reels?and put an old duvet over the tank on freezing nights if you dont fancy leaving a heater in overnight?

Why does using barrels have to do your back in? If the barrels are too heavy with 25 ltrs of water in them, then fill them less full and use more barrels.

Also, most window cleaning company made trolleys are really heavy. I use an old Gardiners trolley, minus all the Gardiners 'bits', with a sureflow pump, a voltage regulator and a cheap maplins remote control.

The battery can be easilly removed and attached. The trolley weighs nothing to lift out the van, the battery takes seconds to attach and then I use a 12V wale pump to fill it up which takes about 90 seconds for 25 ltrs.

When I'm not using the trolley, it stays in the van and connects up so as it can be used as a van mount so I have the best of both worlds - a trolley system when needed that is easy to use and not heavy to lift in and out, and a normal van mount system.


Apart from that, another idea for the depths of winter is to use a back pack filled from barrels.

Waste of time and money going over to trolley .

If you are working 2 reel set up with 2 pumps why cant you mount them on some plywood and make them removable simples .

Not trying to have a go mate but you are defo over thinking things in previous posts people have offered good advice . but it must not be sinking in.

You need to insulate your tank first and foremost also do what i suggested above take hose reels in the house on cold nights .

Insulate your static tank and heat that water up when tank is full with water use a 1 KW aquarium heater £39.99 from ebay 

I am moving house tomorrow and cant run electric out to my L200 Truck to heat water so that is  why i am heating water in  static tank and transfering water to tank in truck each morning .

At the weekend i am going to wrap my flat 400 ltr tank in  foil bubble wrap and place the recycled plastic loft insulation on top of tank and around the sides , Total cost of insulation about £33:00
