younger customers
« on: September 22, 2012, 10:21:09 pm »
Over the last few months ive been trying to get younger customers on my books but am finding this hard .
The biggest part of my work around 75% is made up of over 65 and retired , these are great customers .
The thing is a lot of these customers will not be here much longer .
Over the next 5 years i would take a guess that around 50% of the 75%of over 65 will have passed away .
Im now trying to get a percentage of younger customers , but Why is it that below the age of 30 they just dont seem intrested in having clean windows ?
IF you was to to look at the average age of your customer , what percentage do you reckon wont be around in 5 years time ?
IM JUST planning for the future but without the younger customers the future maybe away from cleaning windows .
where theres muck theres money

I'm sure the people in the thirtys are less concerned with clean windows, I think they are happier enjoying their income.
The sad thing is everything changes and I would put money on this industry going the same way as the states where houses are cleaned inside and out once or twice a year.
It's good that you are aware of the age of your client base.

Not far off , in barnsley mate where a lot of the customers i have are in a bad way years of working down the mines hasnt helped them , in the last 3 months theres been 3 of my customers passed away the oldest was 68 . all 3 are x miners , theres 2 more who havent got long left with cancer both of these are not even 65 , somehow ive got to replace these but the younger people below 30 just dont seem bothered about clean windows .

how many of the under 30's are actually buying their own homes these days ?
How much time did you actually spend at home in your 20's ?
Those that did probably had a young family.
Different priorities, thats all.

I wouldn't disagree with that.
It appeals to me, in some ways; it would be more rewarding, for a start. They would have to pay for it, though and I don't think many of my customers would want to pay much more than for a frequent clean.

By the time your old ones have died there will be a clutch of younger ones who will become that old again. And the cycle will continue.

the younger generations dont have the same standards as the older generation, they have been brought up differentlylike others
have said more concerned about their next hol and the latest piece of tech just because
they will age,it will have little or no effect on the way they think.

glad i will be out of this game in the next ten to twelve years...fingers crossed

The populations ageing I don't think there's much need to have under 30's as a priority.

Younger they are -  more they tend to be messers IMO.
Give me an older customer any day they phone "Got your note - you cleaned my windows the other day I'm wondering how I'm going to pay you"
With the younger ones it's the other way round I'm wondering how I AM  going to get paid!
Had a pensioner the other day was on holiday when cleaned - went to collect said "Don't want you calling back and wasting your time I'll pay you 4 weeks at at time just let me know when it runs out"
Try getting anyone under 30 to do that.
Just dropped one mid - 20's first it was "Call on Monday after 6" - then "Call Wednesday after 8" -  then Friday then "Can you leave it till next Monday?"
When I said well don't mess me about any more text me to make sure you are in 'cos the van costs me a lot and I can't be running around town for nothing.
Said "You think you're funny - you're insulting me now making out I'm not going to pay you"
Dropped with a capital D!!
Don't have many time wasters or messers 'cos they've been dropped but they were all younger customers.

My average age is mid 40's I find these the best type of custy. When I have an old customer die I just wait till someone knew moves in and carry on. In the 10 odd years I have been going I can't count any who didn't want me to carry on with knew owners.
