Hi i was just wondering can you get away with a 22 foot pole or do you really need a 25 foot pole for 3 stories.i dont have any 3 story work at the minit but am quoting some offices tommoz that has some 3rd floor windows.i was going to get a clx 22 until this came up now i am unsure as i dont really want the extra lenghth and wait all the time for just a few windows now and then if it is un-neccesary.when i go tommoz there will be no one there so i will see how far short my existing pole (about 17 foot i think)is but just wondering if anyone who has already been in this position could give me there opinion

Do you mean ground floor, first then second? If so a 22 may reach as long as the windows aren't set back like dormer windows.

You need 10ft per floor as a guide.

Get a pole longer than you need, take off the section(s) you don't use daily and keep them in the van and put back on when you need them.
It's a game of three halves!

How you have not come across any windows you cannot reach with a 17ft pole yet is very rare indeed.

My suggestion would be to get a min pole of 25ft. A 22ft might reach some second (ground, first, second) floor windows but when the ground slopes off or your doing this over a conny, you will need the extra 3ft.

Now you have two choices. Get a cheap 25 ft pole and only use it for the windows it is required on or get a decent 25ft pole you can use without having to change ti half way through a job.

For the past three and a half years i switched between poles thinking that was the best thing. A couple of weeks ago i bought a slx 25 and am using this all the time.

If money allows i would reccomend the slx 25 as a great all day pole. If not then get a cheap 25 + pole and just use that on the windows you need it for.

while I agree with JP that the sl25 is a excellent pole, with working at that height I think that the cost of it is too expensive, instead I would recommend that you get a clx27, its a lot cheaper and can give you a extra 2 foot.

also with all gardiners poles you can buy extensions that will give you extra height if you need it for those jobs that come in that do not justify the cost of buying the complete pole.

The extensions are carbon fibre. Doing your way William would mean having the heaviest part in the air amd yhe lightest part low down. Shouldnt it be the other way round ?

Are you still getting an extreme by the way ?

I bought a CLX27 a few months ago for the 3 Storey work I have got as I couldn't justify spending the extra 300 notes on the SLX35 - even though that would cover all work I'm likely to take on for the next 2 years.

Even with the CLX27, I have had to buy 2 extensions (for between crank and brush) to be able to reach the 3rd Storey windows set back behind the 2nd floor bay window.  With hindsight I should've bought the 25" Gardiner gooseneck and will probably get one before the year is out anyway.

Cheers, Tom

I think it comes down to costs at first, when you are new to the game and just starting to get higher work then the price off the poles can be a hurdle to overcome, imo the ideal start up pole is the clx27, it can normally reach most windows when you first start off and is light enough for all day work, when you start to get more money in then looking at the next best pole is advisable, imo the next step is the slx35 and then after this move into the extreme range.

and yes the extreme range is on my shopping list

hi thanks for the input i did mean ground floor, first then second i have been and had a look at it today and it is about 28 foot to the top of the highest window so i think a 25 foot pole would be best.its just that i thought a 22 would be better for everyday work as it is a bit lighter and shorter on the ground floor in confined spaces.i think ther are pro s and cons to whatever you decide because i think we would all like just one pole to do everything but i dont think it exists

Is that 28ft direct from the ground upwards with or without the angle ?

if its direct then your probably going to need a 30ft

Think of it this way.. TV's are measured corner to corner which is longer than the length of the screen.

You dont clean directly under the window but at an angle (6ft ish back). In that case a 28ft pole would not reach as you need extra for the angle. You can take into account your height, but only 3-4ft as working with the pole above your sholders will put strain and not be comfortable to work.

Sounds like you need a 35ft pole to do the job comfortably.

my 22ft CLX reaches some 3 storey windows

my 25ft SLX is a good all arounder and reaches nearly all my work

then i have a 40ft SUPERMAX which comfortable reaches 4th floor windows, maybe some 5th storey as well as most solar panels on normal house roofs and skylights.

i find having seperate poles best for me.i couldnt be bothered adding sections, taking base caps off and messing about with different lengths of pole hose etc.

for instance im cleaning a block of small granny flats today.easy reach windows and the old folks come out to pay me as im cleaning so i use my 22ft CLX with aqua-daptor.its easy to turn my water on and off as i get a few interruptions!!! ;D ;D
price higher/work harder!
