anyone use a stand pipe from the water board ?
« on: September 05, 2012, 09:02:02 pm »
Going to be moving and might not be able to get the van close enough to fill up so i need to think about other options. Remember reading about a licence to use the fire hydrant network. Does anyone know anythig about this ?
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

Most Jewsons have a deal with local water authorities, You hire a stand pipe from them that has a Meter fitted, I think when you return it they then charge you for water used on behalf of that local water authority.
Don't quote me on that but here in Southwest area thats what happens.

Look up your local water authority online they all usually have info regarding standpipes on their websites.
Again don't quote me but I did read somewhere there is a £5000 fine for improper use, so be careful.

Its Not illegal at all !
Each different Water Authority has its own rules & Regs when it comes to Stand Pipes.

If you actually read my previous posts on the subject, and actually go to any of the previously mentioned websites you will see you are totally wrong!
water authorities will allow use of stand pipes when properly applied for and paid for!

Heres just one example of what I am talking about

http://www.yorkshirewater.com/extra-services/standpipes.aspx

Fire Hydrant stand pipes must never be touched, but all water authorities have WO (washout) outlets that can be used when applied for the correct manner!

So I suggest SFWC that before you post comments and call people names, You GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT FIRST!

heres YOUR local water authority's web site...

This is a cracking example of the kind of post that stops people giving advice.

It leads to long-term users of this site (who probably have plenty of knowledge) keeping quiet a lot of the time.

Well done, SFWC, you should be proud of yourself.
