Broke my ankle playing football Saturday aged 40 (I know to old ) and was wondering what other sole traders would do in my position. I clean six weekly and have been doing lots of my custys for twenty years. I am wfp and trad. Personally I have rallied a few local window cleaning mates to cover my round as best they can but do worry they might not be as bothered about standard of work. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Go and see your custies and explain the situation to them, I would be surprised if you lose more than a handful.

I had a fusion operation on my right ankle last year, I was walking on it after 2 days and working on it 10 days later, just take plenty of pills, grit your teeth and think nice thoughts.

and I am due to have the same done to my left, they did want me to go in today but I am to busy, told them the end of october when it was planned for is fine by me.

Could you employ someone and go round with them?  Your customers will love your dedication and you'll get 70-80% of the cash after paying him.

I've once broke a wrist falling from a roof and couldn't work properly for a couple of months.  It was just before Christmas so not the best of times to do it.  I went round to see all my customers to explain and promise I would be back as soon as I was well enough.

Had the best lot of Christmas tips ever and didn't lose a single customer

Be a bit more difficult to do that with a broken ankle, of course, but the principles the same.

Write letters, give date next clean, explaining the situation.
Then knock all custys, ones hat out drop the letter.ones in , have a chat and leave em the letter.
You should be fine with that, reckon wont lose one.

if you look at it this way, although you will be in plaster for 6 weeks, which to you is forever, you will only miss 1 clean with most of your customers and 2 with some, I don't think a lot will notice.
