I never use it on domestics, only short loop pile tiles.
A pad will not get the crud from the bottom of the loop no matter how long you pad it or what spray you use.
I use microfibre pads that rinse while the others are being used- can do a job with 2 pads but I use 4.
Only one wash load when I get home.
The worst job was the rail engineers at New Street Station in Brum- thick oily trackside trodden in yuk.
And yes Nick's stuff does do the business.
