that's a hard one mate..if it was me personally  i would sell mainly because the turnover is not that great to sub it out and make a decent bit for yourself and with it all still comes the hassle that you may not want to deal with. i would rather have a lump sum and if i couldn't continue window cleaning at least i could use the money to try something else that i would be able to do, as for what its worth it's the profit it makes that really decides that and it really is down to what its worth to someone else.. it is a personal choice and a big one so best of luck mate with whatever you decide to do..

Cheers Paul
My accountant will advise me on a figure , but wanted to see
What you guys would or have paid for similar work.
Profit from this year will be very good as everything is paid
For so it's really only running costs, fuel, insurance etc not much
My last two years profit are £17k and £15k next year will be above
£20k no probs

good step going to your accountant like you say he will give you a realistic figure with all your gear and customers there's a good business to be had there, would give someone a decent wage with a view to expand i would aim at someone who's recently been made redundant and will have some money behind them.

Sorry to hear that.

Totally dependent upon your health and personal circumstances financially, speak to Ian Lancaster (sticky on main page) about franchising.  Having done the job you have a wealth of experience.  It just sounds like you can't physically do it any more, so why not use your knowledge and manage other people doing it for their and your benefit?  Ian's an utterly sound guy and is well worth a call, even if just to explain your circumstances and to get his opinion.

Hi Tom

I agree with Vin, look into franchising, at the moment you have a nice little part time business, I would look at starting a guy on, train him up for 6 months to a year, then give him the business as a franchise package with a commision to you of 25% for the first 5 years.

You will now have some income for 5 years but you can still use your skills to built up another round and repeat, meanwhile your 1st franchise is still growing

GOTTA AGREE WITH the last posts to a degree.

get a lad in the van and train him up to complete the works.
you could even just drive him to each custie /run of houses then  collect the cash , have a natter /canvas whilsts hes doing the manual works.= happy days

ive just trained a lad up and it took me 3 months solid to do it, hardest part is getting them familiar with the round , because you do it so easily/flippantly you expect them to know it like that aswell.

take on someone who has never done it b4 and you will assure that they only pick up your bad habits. my lad constantly scratches his sack and picks his nose now and im sure he didnt before   ;D
