Portakabin Deep Clean
« on: May 14, 2012, 11:49:33 pm »
Hey guys,

Have been asked to do a deep clean of 8No. Portakabins on a local construction site. They've been cleaned on a weekly basis for the last 2 years by an older lady working for herself but now the builder wants them deep cleaned which they feel is to intensive for her.

Even though they've been regularly cleaned, main walkways are stained throughout which they want sorted, safety matting they want bringing back to life, etc etc.

We clean other cabins of a different nature on a regular basis but I'm a bit stuck on this one, particularly the flooring.

Any advice on pricing and/or products would be appreciated. I'll be putting my proposal in tomorrow (15th)  :)

Thanks

Si

Done a few of these and the trick is to establish expectations.

Flooring will almost certainly be scuffed and maybe even torn in places.

This will be ready for return to the hire co. or maybe prior to being moved onto new site.

I doubt you'll need more than a couple of hours per unit. Use a rotary on the floors with a blue poly scrubbing brush with any neutral cleaner (test as always). Wet vac slurry and repeat until clean. Microwave and sink unit the only other problem area.

If furnished and this included I'd add an hour or so, depending what's included.

I've assumed thet are looking for internal clean only.

Great advice Ian but why a pH neutral cleaner as opposed to a high alkaline?

Hi Kevin

If I know the flooring manufacturer type then I'll tend to see what the manufacturer recommends and stick with that, saves any comebacks. As this isn't always possible I would start neutral and see how it goes. If results aren't great then up the ante.

The worry going straight in with high ph is that a clean only has been requested. High ph may strip any finishes (regardless of age / quality of remainder) thus leading to the requirement to apply finish again. I'd doubt this would be within budget as bare bones is what I'd expect they're after. That said, it's always worth checking from the outset.

Thanks Ian, excellent advice.

The cabins are furnished so will allow extra time for this. And yes, internal clean only.

Thanks again mate.

Well.. that one went well.

Another related question, hence the posting here.

Do you guys have any effective methods for routine cleaning of the Altro safety flooring in some of these cabins?

I've checked the Altro data sheet for their recommendations but the floor gets so dirty on one of my contracts that once cleaned and the floor dries there is still a thin layer of dust/dirt because the water gets so dirty so quickly.

Ideally I'd like it done properly first time, without having to go over it twice so hopefully there is some magic method/product that one of you can recommend.  ;D

Thanks,

Si.
