Hi alank
I'd try starting them off with BACS first - as we have found resistance to standing orders but there again we are only just in the early days and not built up the neccessary trust yet.
But if you're established why not start as you mean to go on and go straight for the Standing order?
This is what I leave.

Fewer people use cash these days and because calling at a later date is time consuming, costly and not always convenient, we offer the alternative of payment by bank transfer.
Below are the details for a BACS transfer for online banking.
Simply set up an new Payee / Payment
To. Numpty Window Cleaner
Account No. 12345678
Sort Code. xx-xx-xx
Please use your name or first line of your address as the reference, this helps to identify payments.
Payment within 3 days much appreciated!
Thank You

I only collect from one customer and thats only every 6 months, when its worthwhile.  The rest always pay me on the day I clean.

spot on, when I call they then leave the money somewhere safe, so normally I get over 90% of my money straight away, some though do forget or haven't the cash in the house, with them I either wait untill the next clean or they send a cheque, a few though do do online payments

I make about an extra eighty quid a day by phoning ahead.
