on upvc cleaning and cons roofs etc i usually spray with virosol at first and then clean with cold water as usually when there green it sometimes takes a bit of scrubbing to get it off without using it, but was thinking of maybe making a portable hot system that i would use for this instead so not needing to use the chems.
So my question is would using hot water elimanate the need for the chemicals and does anyone do this with good results or do you find it still does a better job with using tfr/virosol no matter if you use hot or cold.

cheers
paul

I was reading that if you heat up the water is more corrosive  (bit of research I was doing ready for the winter) than the cold. So not sure what to make of it now can't quite get my head around what it is saying bottom right hand bit. Will it knack the pvc frames?

It came from here ... don't shoot the messenger!

http://www.aquafactorsdirect.co.uk/images/uploads/Pub_301.pdf

Is it saying it make the water more acidic? Is it saying go DI only for more acidity? Is it saying you'l be spraying CO2 everywhere?  Is it better is it worse?

Sorry not answered the question because I'm not sure hot water is the future I just use the cold pure water and a step ladder scrub until the conservatory is clean like you.

I know explains the whole pure water thing really well. From water purification specialists with a sideline in Tucker Poles! Instead of the other way round!

I've read it about 5 times and I think what it is saying is ... that the important part of the purification process is the DI and you should DI or at least polish after it is sat in the tank  - which I never knew - I suppose it's the balance of cost get the tds down to an acceptable  without wasting too much water then DI which is obvious but when does the economics kick in 100 TDS 80, 70?

Cold is better than hot it says because of removing the oxygen and increasing CO2 which is bad for the frames and building cladding ... are the hot pure water window cleaners spraying around acid rain and greenhouse emissions?  :o Don't go near any limestone building or national monuments you lot! What does it do to powder coating I wonder?!

Anyway if you look at some of their info on the website ....

it says that you should avoid staitic ro units that are van mounted cos you're just damaging the membranes :o no more diy intallations then

Use a water softener unit first cos they're brill and cheap  :o may be a ball ache but saves money further down the process

The longer the water is stored the worse it cleans ... because of re-ionisation than creeping TDS I think :o correct me if I am wrong!

Use a tank that is impervious to light ... presumably because of the algae (wyedale I hate you!) :o

I don't know anymore ... as it all been hearsay, anecdotal and placebo from window cleaners plus smoke and mirrors from manufacturers.

you can indeed, however using hot to wash off virosol is the true warriors way

It is a real puzzle to me why over 95% of wfp users use a clear tank that encourages algae growth. I do find though that the tds of stored water remains constant and does not rise.

Water softeners are OK but I have just spent over £300 having mine serviced and having the timer unit replaced.

I find that if the water is very hot, upvc cleaning is easier with no detergent at all. The grim just falls off, it's quite therapeutic.

As for hot water causing damage, the only thing I've found that can be a problem are powder coated ally frames. If the water turns milky with cold water, hot water will strip it back to the aluminium. However cold water isn't going to be much better to be honest. I have to say there are a few jobs where I turn the heat off just because I know the frames will continue to milk.

Simon.
