I see new for 2013 is a new AK low pressure membrane with a 99.5% rejection rate at 7.9 bar.

The current Merlin is advertised with a 90% rejection rate.

Oh - forgot the price.
AK90 - 347 LPH    -   £410.00
AK365 - 1450 LPH -  £1285.00
AK400 - 1650 LPH -   £1300.00

I presume that the new Merlin will take a single membrane - but if it doesn't?

If the price of the replacement membranes are £410.00 (I presume a pair) then I would also factor this into your calculation.  Also an output of 9 to 187 that Mark says he is getting is not that good. It means it has an efficiency of 95%. I understand the HF4 & HF5 membranes do better than that. But it may improve with time as the unit settles down.

However, we don't know much about Mark's water pressure and flow and really the only true way of comparing one with another TDS wise is 'side by side'. Of course currently, the 40/40 will produce more water than a Merlin as its a bigger unit.

It would be good to see a picture of it as Nat has asked as their website doesn't appear to have been updated.

Merlins are rubbish unless you've brilliant water pressure and no water meter,.. otherwise they waste a lot (1 part pure to 4 parts waste in my experience) and the TDS out at low pressure is dismal.

Lets hope the replacement system is better,..

7.9 bar is very high water pressure!

You can get a pair of merlin membranes for around £150
Don't know if you can still get them but gaps did a flexi filter system based on the merlin 17" ro where u could add membrane modules my mate had one with six membranes in series it is fasted flowing ro I've ever seen.

Those are the current membranes - it would appear the new AK ones are much more expensive.

I wonder if the old 17" style would fit the new setup as I've heard replacements will available for 5 years after merlin discontinued
