« on: March 12, 2012, 12:29:49 pm »
Hi everyone, I do alot of carpet and upholstery cleaning and im looking to extend my business to hard floor/tile and grout cleaning. Ive been looking at the alltec advance 1200psi and a rotovac 360i. Does anyone use this or what other methods and equipment are out there?

With 1200psi you'd probably be better off investing in a spinner (unless you wanted to use the Rotovac on carpets too?). This should give you faster and drier cleaning.

I think 800psi+ is generally recommended

What sort of floors are you planning to clean. The equipment required is dependent on the kind of work you plan to do. Someone here will be able to help you better if we know if you are cleaning domestic or commercial and the types of floors you will be cleaning e.g. natural stone, ceramic, thermoplastic etc

Despite the fact that I have a truck mount, high powered portables  and spinners I find myself working on most hard floors with a rotary and a triple vac wet suction machine. Don't buy anything till you have thought things through properly.

Hi Nigel

I already clean some commercial floors (some tile some vinyl) with a rotary. But Im looking to cover most floor types in domestic and commercial. I've seen the tile and grout machines in action and they seem a good job but with so much on the market it's hard to know where to start.

I'd be interested in any courses that you could recommend, doesn't matter where they are as I'd be coming from N.I.

I agree with everything you say here Nigel. We only use our spinner when doing poolsides and garage showrooms. These are always ceramic/porcelain. This only accounts for about 3 days per month but is worth it for the speed we can run at.

For natural stone and resilient restoration or maintenance its all Wet Vac & Rotary.

Natural stone and spinners dont work too well together in my opinion. They are only suitable for man made tiles, even then they are really only good for rinsing. You need to clean the surface first. In the same way you dont clean a carpet by just running a wand over. You need to pretreat, agitate, then rinse.
